4 year olds

Welcome to the Community Arts Preschool four-year-old program. Using the age-appropriate Creative Curriculum, we prepare children for their journey into elementary school and help them become independent and feel they are an important part of our community.

We provide opportunities in the areas of art, music, science, dramatic play, as well as exposure to pre-math and pre-reading skills. We feel that when children are comfortable socially, learning comes more naturally.

Throughout the year, teachers help the children learn to negotiate their way through conflicts, help with verbal communication when needed, help them to make good choices and communicate with their peers as they interact with each other.

Learning comes best through a relaxed environment and through child’s play. Puzzles, dramatic play, tactile tables, invention centers and manipulatives are always available during free exploration times. We give the children opportunities to choose from a variety of activities planned around a focus of the week, including open-ended art, small motor development, and problem solving.

We expose the children to a variety of experiences through field trips in nature, music, and host special guests sharing talents from puppetry to reptiles.

We have a secure playground for large motor activities, or on the wettest days, we use a large indoor space, and also provide music classes.

The 4's have so many special days, from studying native American culture, to pajama day and Mother's Day Tea.

We encourage family participation as well as support parents and guardians by hosting parent education classes, opportunities for hearing, vision, and speech screening at school through an independent service. We provide families with opportunities to get involved in community charities, including the Make-A-Wish foundation annual penny drive and monthly donations to help families in need through the Neighborhood House Organization.
